Thought provoking image, Mary. Unique, reflecting a good eye for the unusual! v g+

Mary McAvoy replied:

Thanks, Joe. Having just visited your site, I take this as a real compliment. And, sadly, I'll be posting more photos I've taken a year later of this canal bed. And I'll be titling a blog post about it "The Eerie Canal" as it is truly frightening to see the amount of junk people have discarded into it. Thanks again.

Mary, what a powerful image! You have made an important statement with this beautiful work. Awesome art!

Mary McAvoy replied:

Thanks Christy. I took that photo a year ago. Just this week I was back at the canal and again the water is low and again I took images of the junk on the floor of the canal. It's unnerving to see. In one frame you can count 11 tires...Thanks again.

How sad that humans cannot or will not dispose of waste in a way that does not harm the environment. Your photo makes a statement that needs to be made and taken to heart by all.

Mary McAvoy replied:

Thanks, Jeanne. It is sad. And I do hope this image results in awareness and changed behavior. There was a thin layer of ice on the canal when I took the photo. To me, it hints at an Armageddon-like future if we don't take better care of our planet.

it is as if the bycicle were in a surreastic movie. I like it! did you hear about the movie, Bycicle thief that started the new wave of italian realistic movies in Italy? I don't know why I thought of it while looking at your picture!

Mary McAvoy replied:

Hi Marilene, I haven't heard of the movie you mention. But this image makes me think of the Mad Max series of movies! The overall dismal look surrounding the exact outline of the discarded bicycle, tells me to be careful how I treat the planet. I hope it delivers the same message to all who view it! Thanks for your visit to my site and your comment - Mary
